Mojacar Pueblo Nestling below the Sierra Cabrera
Mountains and perched on a hilltop is the unique village of Mojacar.
Feel transported in time as you wander through this old Moorish
settlement,the narrow cobbled streets with its many intimate bars,
shops ,and restaurants. Visit the fresh water springs and the splendid
church built on the site of the old Alcazaba ( fortress). From the
tree shaded square take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding
countryside. A visit after sunset offers a lively colourful atmosphere.
Mojacar Playa Modern and cosmopolitan, the Playa
has 7km of unspoilt beaches. At the northern end you can find privacy
within quiet coves ,scuba dive or snorkel to enjoy the abundant
marine life. Coming into the 'central 'part of the beach area you
will find a host of cafes, traditional bars and restaurants offering
Italian French Spanish Indian Chinese cuisine. A lively place until
the early hours. . . Moving on down to the quieter end , visit the
Parque Commercial, here you will find a medical centre, supermarket,
bank , restaurants and many fashion boutiques and craft shops. Take
a leisurely rest for coffee in one of the squares , a popular meeting
place.and watch the world go by.
Garrucha
'The Seafood Capital of Mojacar' An affluent market town and commercial
centre. Explore the narrow bustling street of the fishing village
and walk the tree lined promenade, with its abundance of restaurants
cafes and bars. Visit the harbour and watch the fisherman come in
with their daily catch. The popular market is on Friday's . Just
north of Garrucha you will find the Parque Acuatico at Vera , the
slides and shutes guaranteed to generate enough adrenaline pumping
for days.
A Little Further Inland
Cortijo
Grande Passing through Turre towards the Sierra Cabrera
mountains. The entrance to Cortijo Grande is marked by a pair of
majestic pillars here you will find the picturesque 9 hole golf
course, sprinkled with individual villas laying in the folds at
the base of the Sierra Cabrera mountains. After a game of golf enjoy
a meal or drink under the vines at the local hostelry.
Cabrera This is 'a must see' Leaving Cortijo Grande
behind and driving up to Cabrera you will pass through acres of
protected natural habitat Herbs flora and grasses grow in abundance.
Many species of birds and wild life including wild boar! and.of
course the tortoise.roam freely. Ideal for walking and bird watching.
Horse trekking from the stables is an ideal way to feel the magic
of the mountain. Built around ancient ruins the modern settlement
reflects the Arabic architecture of an age gone by. Enjoy a relaxing
meal and take in the magnificent views. Time spent here makes you
feel a million miles away from civilization.
Other places to visit
Sorbas Situated on the Aguas River the area is
of high geological and botanical interest.Organised trips to the
spectacular underground complex are available at Cuevas de Sorbas,
all equipment is provided and visits last between 2 and 5 hours.
A quiet village where houses hang on the cliff overlooking the river.
Quite spectacular at night when the village and ravine is lit up.
Artisan traditions are still practised such as ceramics iron and
cane. Visit the pottery and see clay pots in the making.
Nijar Just off the motorway en route to Almeria
,Nijar is Famous for its rugs, baskets and pottery.
Tabernas Set in Europe's only desert . Made famous
for filming The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Fistful of Dollars The
Magnificent Seven and many more. Mini Hollywood the film set is
open to the public giving live entertainment and also has a zoo
of many speices.
Bedar An authentic Spanish village, in existence
since the time of the Moors. Bedar is found nestling in the lower
slopes of the Filabres mountains. The village still retains many
of the original cottages which line the narrow streets and little
alleyways. Don't forget your camera you will be inspired by shots
of the beautiful bougainvillea or almond blossom in January.The
village has a number of good restaurants and bars offering a wide
